Start The Day Off With A Super Smoothie
Kefir
Kefir will always be my favorite cultured food and the one with the most benefits. It has the most probiotics of any cultured food - over 50 good bacteria and good yeasts. It's become one of the most important foods I consume every day. It has helped me keep my blood pressure healthy and my blood sugar too. With 19 anti-inflammatory markers in this powerful food, I don't go without it very often. It has made me healthy and I will be eternally grateful for all the blessings it has bestowed on me. Check out more about this powerful fermented drink. If I could only consume one cultured food, I would pick kefir.
Prebiotic HMOs
Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) are specific carbohydrates, and are essentially super prebiotics occurring naturally in mother's milk. They are the fastest way to help build the all-important Bifidobacteria in the gut, which is one of your most important bacteria, all the while feeding other species of bacteria to promote a diverse and strong microbiome.
They actually make HMOs through precise fermentation, purified to an unprecedented purity of 98%. These bio-identical HMOs deliver all the benefits without any actual human milk in the product. You only need them for a short amount of time - two to four weeks - and then you're off and running.
Simple Reds
Berries and I have a love affair. I eat them in my morning smoothies, and I recently began adding a red phenol powder to my smoothies to get even more benefits. And what a difference it has made. Those red pigments in berries keep my skin and heart healthy and load me with energy. Your body and microbes love red phenols. Just try adding this to your morning smoothie and see how much better you feel. Simple Reds brand has organic whole beetroot powder, organic whole cranberry powder, organic goji berry powder, organic whole strawberry powder, and organic apple peel powder which feed the all-important bacteria in your gut called Akkermansia muciniphila. These special bacteria keep your gut lining intact and are your defense from the outside world. Red polyphenols can help to reduce chronic inflammation and spur the growth of beneficial gut bacteria such as Bifidobacteria.
Frozen Fruit
I always add some kind of frozen fruit to my smoothies. It adds sweetness, feeds my microbes, and fills me up. I mostly use fruits like frozen wild blueberries, strawberries, mangos, pineapple, cherries, persimmons, and bananas. The list changes throughout the year depending on what fruit is in season. Frozen fruit makes the smoothies thick and creamy and very filling. Fruit is one of my favorite ways to feed my microbes. They love all the fibers in fruit. They feast on them, and then my microbes grow and multiply. Berries, and particularly strawberries, are the fifth-best source of vitamin C, and they also help regulate your blood sugar. So, many of my mornings are filled with strawberries. They give me a lift and they taste delicious.
Orange Juice
Orange juice contains a special compound called hesperidin that offers a lot of health benefits. It can help your heart health, improve your blood pressure, keep viruses at bay, help with cognitive functions, and boost your immune system tremendously. Check out my article below for more info.
You can even replace the fruit in this recipe with orange juice and add a little ice to make it frothy like a frapaccino. It will give you tons of vitamin C that works hand in hand with your gut bacteria.
